THE LIGHT
By Lindsey Snyder
Once there was a little girl named Julie.
She just moved to a new home. The house she lived in was a mansion. It was old
and surrounded by the woods. When she went inside, it was nice and big, but she
felt a little weird. She thought it was just because it was a new home, so she
ignored it. The rest of the day, she helped her family unpack. It was dark
outside when they finished unpacking, so Julie grabbed something to eat and
then went to bed. Before Julie fell asleep, she lay there thinking. She was
just glad that she didn’t have to change schools - that she would wake up to
her best friends.
The next day, Julie told her friends about
the house and the weird feeling she had. Her friend said that it was probably
just because it was a new house. They asked if they could stay overnight and
check out the place. So, later the girls got together at Julie’s house. They
played outside for a while. When it was time to go to bed, the girls went to
Julie’s room and got ready to go to sleep. The girls could not fall asleep, so
they were talking and messing around. Then one of the girls looked out the
window and stared. The other girls noticed her and asked what she was doing.
She pointed to a dim light in the woods behind Julie’s house. By the time the
other girls got to the window, the light disappeared.
Later, while the girls were still awake,
the same girl noticed the light again. This time all the girls saw it. They
wanted to know what it was, so they quietly slipped outside into the woods.
They followed the light deep into the woods. One of the girls hit her foot off
something hard. They looked down and realized they were in a cemetery! Then
they saw a lantern sitting there on a tombstone. As they walked over to read
the tombstone…
